What Will Your Walk with God Look Like This Year?

“Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.”  - 1 Thessalonians 4:1 (KJV emphasis added)

I am sure that you are familiar with this idiomatic expression: “If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is most likely a duck.”  My question for you is: What will your walk with God look like in 2015?

With the beginning of a new year, it is a common practice for a good number of people to purpose to be resolute in a specific area in their life.   As a matter of fact, in 2012, 45% of Americans made at least one New Year's resolution.  According to the University of Scranton, the top ten New Year's resolutions are

  1. lose weight
  2. getting organized
  3. spend less, save more
  4. enjoy life to the fullest
  5. staying fit and healthy
  6. learn something exciting
  7. quit smoking
  8. help others in their dreams
  9. fall in love, and
  10. spend more time with family.

Do you notice any glaring omissions?  According to this specific survey, New Year’s resolutions relating to spiritual things or one’s relationship or walk with God are missing.

In our text, Paul makes an adamant appeal to the Thessalonian believers to walk in a manner that is pleasing to God. What if we willfully worked at walking with the Lord and not away from him this new year?  Consider with me four specific action points that will reflect a life that walks towards God:

Want what He desires for your life as opposed to your own wants and desires.  Luke 22:42
Apply the word of God to all your decisions and positions.  James 1:22
Look to love and be loyal to the Lord in all your relationships. Galatians 2:20
Know Him on a deeper level and embrace your identity in Him.

This is the way to walk this year and every year!
