The Licentious Lips of Lying - Part Two

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32 (KJV)

From 1956 to 1968 there was a television show called “To Tell the Truth.” Did I also mention that the show was in black and white? Yes, we are going retro and old school for this week’s blog entry.

“To Tell the Truth” was a classic game show which featured a panel of four celebrities whose objective was to correctly identify a contestant who had an unusual occupation or who had personally partaken in an unusual experience. The "genuine or central character" was accompanied by two impostors who pretend to be the central character.  Together, the three people are said to belong to a "team of challengers." The celebrity panelists questioned the three contestants. The impostors were allowed to lie, but the central character was sworn "to tell the truth." After questioning, the panel attempted to identify which of the three challengers was telling the truth and was thus the central character.

Now I am a fan of T.V classics and shows. However, I got to tell the truth about this show. The truth is that show conditioned us; promoted and gave us permission to lie.

Lying is not made benign because it is beneficial in a game or as we mentioned last week; lying because it protects others or yourself. It is a cancer of carnality. And those that purposely practice lying and drink from this gratuitous goblet are guaranteed to be gripped by God’s judgment and cast into a Christ-less eternity.  When you live a loyal life of lying lips it will lock you up in the Lake of Fire.

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8 (KJV, emphasis mine)

Now consider with me nine characteristics of a liar.

  1. His or her lies grow and increase daily. The prophet Hosea spoke out against people who justified their alliances with unlawful people groups who were the enemy of God. Rather than displaying the character of God, they were displaying the character of God’s enemies.

“Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.” Hosea 12:1 (KJV, emphasis mine)

  1. Liars are parked in unfaithfulness and pour out lies with proficient lips.

“A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.” Proverbs 14:5 (KJV, emphasis mine)

  1. The liar loves to lie as well as bless you with the same lips.

  1. They will bless you with their lips but curse you inwardly.

“They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.” Psalm 62:4 (KJV, emphasis mine)

  1. The liar will conceal their hatred with their lying lips.

“He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.” Proverbs 10:18 (KJV, emphasis mine)

  1. The liar is always excited and eager to entertain and listen to dishonest, destructive and devilish discourse.

“A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.” Proverbs 17:4 (KJV)

  1. The liar seeks and plots mischief that wounds and cuts as deep as a sharp razor.

  1. The liar labors to deceive and loves evil more than good.

“The tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue. Psalms 52:2-4 (KJV, emphasis mine)

  1. A liar’s lips are unstable, unreliable and short lived.

“The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.” Proverbs 12:19 (KJV, emphasis mine)

Are you remotely connected with any of these characteristics of a liar? Oh Precious One who has been purchased by the Blood of the Lamb! Let’s not lock lips with the devil. Instead, let’s kiss the Son and be set free!

Join me again next week when we will consider the consequences and cure to licentious lying lips.
