Treating the Word as a Transcending Treasure

"My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God." Proverbs 2:1-5 (KJV, emphasis mine)

Have you ever entertained what people treasure the most? According to an online search, the following is a list of the best answers as to what people should treasure the most:

1. Treasure the happiest moments of your life during that special occasion or with that special someone or friends!

2. Treasure your true friends who help you and whom you have helped.

3. Treasure what you do for others in kind word, thought, or deed with the physical strength you have. Never take your health for granted.

4. Treasure true love when it comes for it is eternal and cannot be broken. It will renew you when you remember it when going through dark and lonely times.

What primes provocation of thought is that all four of these proposals punctuate the pricelessness as well as the power of personal relationships!  Our Lord Jesus Christ shared that what we store and value in our hearts gives voice to not only what we possess but also what possesses us.

"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Luke 12:24 (KJV)

Did you also notice that the word treasure is utilized as a verb and not a noun?

Therefore, what we treasure is a transaction of the heart. What we define as treasure is inseparable from what we feel and think. Our thoughts and feelings also transcend the worth of tangible things like money, and prized possessions. Our thoughts and feelings go much farther than the money in our pocket, purse or private safe.

Holding on to happy moments, tying ourselves to true friends, being grateful for the gift of good health, living in laudable love that lifts us in lonely seasons are things that we treasure. However, I submit to you that there is an even greater treasure hidden to a considerable host of hearts and the few that find it hide it in their hearts.

Join me next time as we continue to capture an exceeding treasure with eternal value.
