A Rock That Will Never Roll

A Rock That Will Never Roll

“For I am the LORD, I change not;” Malachi 3:6a

When you have been blessed to see six decades or more of sunrises and sunsets, there will be times in your life when your days seem like shifting sand. Relationships change, intentions collapse, emotions rise and fall, and the world around us appears to proceed at such a ballistic pace that we can barely keep up. In moments like these, the soul intuitively seeks something solid, something steady, something that will not move no matter what presses against it.

The Word of God, the Holy Scriptures, gives us that picture repeatedly: God is our Rock. But not just any rock—the Lord God is a Rock that will never roll. By faith, we understand that when everything is fluid, our faithful God remains still. Scripture reveals to us that David experienced instability well. He spent years running from enemies, hiding in caves, and navigating betrayal. Nevertheless, he steadied himself with the truth that when everything moves, God stands still.

Psalm 62:7 — "In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God."

David wasn’t holding in his head, heart, and hand a pebble. He was holding on to a good and great God who does not shift with circumstances—a God who remains the same in every season, a God who is not threatened by what threatens us.

Therefore, when you are feeling flung all around, remember: your God is not moving.

Psalm 18:2 — "The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower."

In addition, we trust the Word of God to be true when it emphatically declares that God is unchanging and a firm foundation. So, a rock that “never rolls” points to a God who never shifts, never evolves into something else, and never becomes unstable. Again, let’s anchor ourselves in some additional RST (Rock Solid Truth):

• God’s character is constant.
• His promises remain firm.
• His purposes cannot be overturned
.

Hebrews 13:8 — "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever."

This principle means God is not fickle, moody, or unpredictable. He is steady.

And when your strength fails, His doesn’t. Furthermore, a rolling stone is unreliable; it can crush, drift, or disappear. But a rock that never rolls is a place you can rest your full weight on. In Scripture, a rock is often a metaphor for protection. A rock that never rolls is a refuge that never collapses. The following principles will point out and place us on RST—Rock Solid Truth:

• God provides safety in chaos.
• His protection is not temporary.
• He is a place of spiritual stability.

You must personally know the Rock before you can possess the peace of the Rock.

Not a sermon—just some thoughts.
