A Priceless Pearl Is Not for Pigs

A Priceless Pearl Is Not for Pigs

"Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you." -- Matthew 7:6

There are some words from the LIVING WORD (Jesus) that comfort us, and others that call us out. Our opening text, Matthew 7:6, is one of those challenging passages that I categorize as sharp, stunning, and impossible to disregard.

“Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them under their feet and turn and tear you to pieces.”

At first glance, it seems harsh. But when you sit (spiritual instructional thinking) with it, you realize the Lord Jesus isn’t being malicious; He’s being protective. He’s teaching us something fundamental about value, discernment, and the sacredness of what God has entrusted to us.

This isn’t a passage about judging people. It’s a passage about protecting what is holy, recognizing what is priceless, and refusing to let the precious things of God be mishandled, misused, or misunderstood.

Let’s take some spiritual steps to strengthen the spiritual man and see why this topic matters to us today.

Pearls picture what God has deposited in you.

In Scripture, pearls symbolize something costly, rare, and formed through pressure and time. Jesus uses this image intentionally. I believe that the Lord is leading us to lock in with eyes to see and ears to hear, and tie yourself in Spirit and Truth to the following thoughts.

Your faith is a pearl.
Your testimony is a pearl.
Your calling, your growth, your wisdom, and your spiritual maturity are all pearls.

These are not knockoff nuggets or cheap trinkets. They are treasures formed by our Father God’s grace, goodness, and your journey. Furthermore, the Lord Jesus is recapping the reality that not everyone will recognize His value and how He values us.

It is generally accepted that value is proven by the price someone is willing to pay. Therefore, we determine worth by cost. The Word of God (Scripture) says we were “bought with a price,” and that price wasn’t silver or gold, but the precious blood of Christ.

1 Corinthians 6:20 -- For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1 Peter 1:18–19 -- Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

The cross that cemented Christ’s crucifixion is God’s way of saying He determined your worth by the cross and, “You matter to Me more than My own life.”

No one pays a high price for something they don’t value. The cross is the ultimate valuation.

Remember, the blood of Jesus is precious and will never lose its power to preserve, protect, purify, and portray our value to God.

I encourage you to join me again next time as we consider the thought, A Priceless Pearl Is Not for Pigs.

Not a sermon, just some thoughts.
