Welcoming the Wonderful One

Back in 1985 I found myself in a country and providence with which I was very unfamiliar.  As an aspiring professional athlete, God by His sovereign grace had secured me a roster spot with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League.  The name Saskatchewan was not a household name for a guy from Griffin, Georgia.  Adjusting to an unfamiliar atmosphere, culture and a climate that polar bears would praise in late fall was definitely a daunting task!  Welcoming the extreme weather and playing football on what seemed to be a frozen planet was not what I had anticipated.  I should have read the fine print: “CFL players will be practicing and playing in Popsicle conditions!”...

Legitimate Love Lifts Up the Lord - Part Three

In last week’s blog, I discussed how God’s unconditional and eternal love for us was clearly demonstrated by the Lord Jesus Christ when “He laid down his life for us.” The Master’s monumental movement of love for us should not cause us to park in our ponderings but should move us to lay down our lives for each other as well. God demonstrated what true “agape” love looks like. We as imitators and servants of the Most High God should be real and revelatory demonstrations of His love in this world.

Legitimate Love Lifts Up the Lord - Part Two

We are all familiar with the phrase: “Actions speak louder than words.” This is especially true when we scrutinize the sincerity and legitimacy of love in individuals or collectively as a body of believers. As I mentioned in last week’s blog, legitimate love lifts, glorifies and reflects the Lord. In order for us to grasp godly love we must look to His word.

Legitimate Love Lifts Up the Lord

“What the world needs now, is love sweet love…”
“All you need is love…”

When Your Heart Takes You to Court

“You had better ‘lawyer up’ because I will see you in court!” These are not the kind of words that anyone would welcome!  The thought of securing representation and standing before a judge can take discomfort to another level.  However, did you know that when your heart is not submissive to the spirit of God it will turn into a pernicious prosecutor that purposes to place you in a jail of guilt?  Too often when we fail God, compromise our convictions or break promises, our heart immediately leaps to accuse us and wrap us in chains of defeat.  By dwelling on our failures, we baptize ourselves in an unbiblical beat-down.

The Four Letter Word that Works Wonders: WAIT

Have you ever been told to wait? By nature we are usually inclined to despise the directive to wait! To be told to wait is often interpreted as unjust and insensitive. The prevailing attitude is that waiting is an impediment to my immediate indulgence! Too many of us are cemented in this culture of immediate gratification.

Gripped by Gossip

In the arena of athletic competition having a good grip is essential for success. To illustrate, I just picked up the game of golf.  Like a large number of other novices, I have discovered that it is a difficult game to play. It is not as easy as it looks.  However, with good instruction, a functional knowledge of the equipment, practice, discipline and thousands of pounds of patience and prayer, you will place yourself in a position to enjoy the game
