Figuring Out The Flesh In Faith - Part Two

Question: Since God loves sinners, then why worry about sin? If God gives grace and forgiveness to sinners, then some people would suggest why not sin more frequently to receive more grace? Therefore one can conclude that I could commit more sin in order to capture more grace, right?

Figuring Out the Flesh in Faith

Maybe you have entertained, experienced and expressed the following thoughts:

  • I do not know why I continue to do the things that are not warranted by the word of God.
  • I can never do or get anything right.
  • I just do not understand why I can’t kick this habit.
  • I want to change but I just don’t believe I can.
  • I wish I was never born.
  • I am not significant so why was I born?
  • I know that nobody understands me.

Anchored in Adverse Affections

When our first parents (Adam and Eve) activated treason against our benevolent Creator, the consequence was the corruption of two divinely-given domains that direct the disposition of humanity. First, our conscience, which gives us the ability to process and conceptualize and two, our affections, which consist of the things that mean a lot to us and the people we cherish and love.

An Expensive Relationship

As we prepare for Passion Week, I thought it important to process the price that Jesus paid to purchase a personal relationship with God for us. A review of the Levitical law indicates that sacrifice was required to compensate for man’s sin nature.  As sin separates us from a holy and righteous God (Isaiah 59:2), the blood of an animal sacrifice offered a tangible visual for the cost required to reconcile man to God.  More importantly, the Levitical system established man’s need for a Savior. Meet My Friend: MR. MAP - Part One

When my three sons were young children, I wanted them to have a sincere interest for the Word of God. I wanted them to know that life doesn't consist of an incessant investment in indulgence. Consider what the Lord Jesus said, "Man shall not live by bread alone but every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" Matthew 4:4b (KJV).
