Committed to Christ-like Change

Most of us are familiar with the idiomatic question: Who made the bigger investment: the chicken that gave us eggs or the pig that gave us the bacon?  Obviously the pig offered his life for his offering so he would be the one that made the greater investment.

Treasurable Thoughts

Have you ever examined and entertained how often our Eternal God thinks about us?  It is indeed a tall order to be occupied with what God thinks instead of being occupied with what people think and feel about us. In all of our relationships, personal, private, and professional we are often preoccupied with what people think.

The Four-Letter Word that Works Wonders: WAIT

Have you ever been told to wait? By nature we are usually inclined to despise the directive to wait!  To be told to wait is often interpreted as unjust and insensitive. The prevailing attitude is that waiting is an impediment to my immediate indulgence!  Too many of us are cemented in this culture of immediate gratification.

Figuring Out the Flesh in Faith - Part Three

Are you aware that Florida's nickname is “The Sunshine State,” adopted officially by Florida legislature in 1970? Florida is now the third most-populated state in the country and its beaches draw thousands of tourists every year. Figuring Out The Flesh In Faith - Part Two

  • I wish I was never born.
  • I am not significant so why was I born?
  • I know that nobody understands me.
  • I do not know what is wrong with me.

Anchored in Adverse Affections

When our first parents (Adam and Eve) activated treason against our benevolent Creator, the consequence was the corruption of two divinely-given domains that direct the disposition of humanity. First, our conscience, which gives us the ability to process and conceptualize and two, our affections, which consist of the things that mean a lot to us and the people we cherish and love.

An Expensive Relationship

As we prepare for Passion Week, I thought it important to process the price that Jesus paid to purchase a personal relationship with God for us. A review of the Levitical law indicates that sacrifice was required to compensate for man’s sin nature.  As sin separates us from a holy and righteous God (Isaiah 59:2), the blood of an animal sacrifice offered a tangible visual for the cost required to reconcile man to God.  More importantly, the Levitical system established man’s need for a Savior. In response, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to fulfill the Law that we might be reconciled to Him (Matthew 5:17).

Meet My Friend: MR. MAP - Part Five

In today’s blog we will be closing our discussion on MR. MAP, an acronym that I used with my young boys to encourage them in their relationship with Jesus Christ. As a review, MR. MAP stands for the following:

M = Memorization
R = Reading

M = Meditation
A = Application
P = Prayer

It is only appropriate to close our series with the fifth and final discipline of Prayer.
