Stability of a Saint

When you think about the word stability what comes to your mind?  Maybe you are a fiscally focused person so you set things in place that you believe that will reward you with financial stability.  If you regularly visit your relationships it is most likely that you intentionally invest in those relationships for stability.  I believe that stability is an essential element in a relationship because stability provides legitimacy and longevity in sound relationships.

When Your Heart Takes You To Court

“You had better ‘lawyer up’ because I will see you in court!” These are not the kind of words that anyone would welcome!  The thought of securing representation and standing before a judge can take discomfort to another level.  However, did you know that when your heart is not submissive to the spirit of God it will turn into a pernicious prosecutor that purposes to place you in a jail of guilt?  Too often when we fail God, compromise our convictions or break promises, our heart immediately leaps to accuse us and wrap us in chains of defeat.  By dwelling on our failures, we baptize ourselves in an unbiblical beat-down.

Fools Have a Hard Head that Invites a Soft Behind

When I was a young man growing up parents had a way with words that burned in your mind and heart. Sayings like, “God does not like ugly,” “Birds of a feather flock together” and “The grass is not always greener on the other side” were common colloquialisms of the day.  However, there was one expression that still burns in my mind: "A hard head makes a soft behind!"  Perhaps this phrase is perpetuated in my conscious because I remember that it was connected with my butt being burned for not listening to my parents and choosing to run in the fast lane of foolishness.

An Attitude of Accessorizing the Almighty - Part Two

In last week’s blog, I introduced the concept that many of us approach the Almighty God with an attitude that He is an accessory to our lives and our life’s plans. Following up on the discussion that I forwarded from last week, I ask: Are you too busy or self-absorbed when it comes to the time that our gracious Lord has given you? If your answer is in the affirmative, then I submit to you that you have been seduced to reduce the Almighty God (in your mind and heart) to an accessory such as an earring, necklace, tie or a tube of lipstick.

An Attitude of Accessorizing the Almighty

Have you ever given any consideration to the issue of Christians treating God as an accessory? My wife and I were just having a conversation in regards to how professing believers relate to and interact with God. We were specifically discussing how much energy, devotion and prioritization Christians allot to people, places and things instead of their relationship with God. I respectfully submit to you that if we are not intentional in investigating our interactions and industry, you will invite an attitude in your heart and mind that supplants God’s authority in our lives while also minimizing who He is.

Determined to be Divinely Directed

When I was a kid, we loved being outside and active in fun that did not cost a lot of money. The fun we enjoyed also would not have cost our innocence, reputation or witness for the Lord. Our fun was fueled by an imagination that reinforced respect and positivity as well as enhanced our experience of entertainment and recreation. There was nothing like a good game of Cops and Robbers or morphing into Marvel comic heroes at the drop of a hat. We did not need a shuttle to travel to outer space nor did we need a plane or train to transport us to the deepest jungles, rain forests, Antarctica or any place in the world no soul has ever seen.  To get our heart rate up and our sweat on we had a blast with games like Red-Rover-Come-on-Over, Red Light, Hide and Seek, Hop Scotch and we balled with every ball in existence. What powered our cars and mode of transportation for play were not batteries but good old body power (our legs).

Personal Martyrdom is Essential for Multiplying Ministry

Do you remember when our public schools were resolute in teaching our children what we referred to as the 3 R’s? Basically the three R’s are a reference to the bedrock of a basic, skills-oriented education program focusing on reading, writing and arithmetic. I respectfully submit to you that our schools have been seduced to supplant the 3 R’s with secular social constructs like: promotion of promiscuous sexual orientations, transgenderism, racial politics, anti-capitalist ideology, self-entitlement, indifference and intolerance of a biblical worldview as opposed to the ABC’S of learning. For our edification this week, I would like you to give consideration to the third R arithmetic aka math. As an elementary student, I remember my mathematical progression from adding and subtraction to the multiplication table.

Leaning On The Limb Of Your Understanding

One of the most blessed and beautiful things in the body of Christ is to experience and enjoy sincere and sweet fellowship with one another. My wife and I were spending some time with a splendid, service-oriented couple in our church body. Besides sharing a destiny together (eternal life), I discovered that the wife of the couple and I had been raised in the same state, Georgia, the Peach State. While most of us identify the State of Georgia as the Peach State, they also have a plethora of pecan trees. Oftentimes, the best pecans were at the top of the tree.

Making God Great Again (In Your Life)

In the 2016 presidential election, the Trump campaign reached back to the days of Ronald Reagan (1980) and grabbed the Gipper’s powerfully persuasive phrase that promoted patriotism and propelled him to his landslide victory over Jimmy Carter: “Make America Great Again."  Now I would like you to consider with me not a slogan but a sentence that seeks to supplant self-centeredness and set God as the superior subject of your life!  Make God Great Again!
