Not A Sermon, Just A Thought

From my last blog offering we noted that Psalm 119:115 gives us a Holy handle on the heart of the psalmist. He did not want his convictions and commitment toward his God to be a casualty caused by communion and connection with evil doers. (BAD-COMPANY).

Question. Have you been told to be careful of the company that you keep? In my day as a young man, the company that you keep was referred to as your homeboys, posse, crew, buddies, and dudes just to name a few.

Light of the world
You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes, Let me see
Beauty that made this heart adore You
Hope of a life spent with you

The opening of today’s blog lifts us with a lovely and wonderful song of worship. It has marvelously ministered to millions of worshipers since its release on December 24, 2001. It reminds us that our Lord Jesus declared that He is the light of the world:

The other day I was interested in going to the local grocery store to pick up some produce. Speaking of grocery store, as a kid I never referenced the nomenclature. Supermarket, convenient store, grocery store were all basically called “the store”. As I was saying, the purpose of my recent trip to the grocery store was to look for some fruit. Upon entering the produce department, I did not casually select a few items and leave. The fruit I was looking for had to be examined in order for me to entertain the idea of taking it home for my enjoyment. Just as God designed various trees with the ability to produce fruit, He also gave us the capacity to produce spiritual fruit for the purpose to being shared by the body of Christ to enjoy. Just as I subjected the fruit in the store to an examination, God also wants us to examine our spiritual fruit.

For this week’s blog, I wanted to visit the word of God’s call on our lives with respect to the responsibility and practice of living right before the Lord.

Harvesting is defined as the process of gathering a supply of something that has reached maturity and is then stored. Another word for maturity is complete. I submit to you that evidence of a growing Christian is his or her capacity to harvest humility.

Those of us that are fortunate enough to have a dwelling (home) to live in usually have a place in our homes where we keep our clothing (closet). If the clothes were not given to us, it is plausible that you or someone purchased them for you.

Did you ever entertain where the phrase the clothes make the man comes from?

Well according to (phrases, sayings, idioms, and expressions) at the Phrase Finder, one’s appearance makes a major difference. It is believed that a comparable expression was current among the ancient Greeks: 'The garment makes the man.' In the manner 'apparel makes the man', the idea turned up in England as early as the 16th century. A century afterwards, it was at times expressed as ‘the tailor makes the man.’

In our B.C. (Before Christ was Lord of our lives) days we dressed ourselves in a wardrobe befitting with walking in the world. I submit to you that we all enjoy a Rags to Riches story. We were all dead in our trespasses and sins because we became transgressors against a Holy God’s law. As a result, we clothed ourselves with a disposition of (Rebellion-Against-God’s Scriptures).
