A Mind and Mouth that Magnifies the Lord Part 2
A Mind and Mouth that Magnifies the Lord Part 2
O magnify the LORD with me and let us exalt his name together. Psalm 34:3
From our spiritual and biblical instructional momentum from last week, we continue to move in the understanding of what it means to magnify the Lord with your mind and mouth.
Magnifying the Lord means to personally purpose to project God’s presence and power in such a way that others, as well as yourself, can perceive His glory more vividly! Because truth be told, we cannot make God any bigger, and there is no need for enlargement of His enjoyed Eternal enormity. In addition, magnifying God does not mean to augment His greatness, because again it’s an absolute given that God is already infinitely great, flawless, and Eternal in Excellence and Majesty.
So let me put an illustration on the thought shelf so you can help yourself to some understanding from the natural market in order to grasp what comes from the Super-natural market.
When I was a young boy, I got my hands on a magnifying glass. I discovered that, besides burning bugs, it made things look bigger. However, we know that a magnifying glass doesn’t make the object bigger, but it benefits others in seeing things more vividly and in much more detail.
In the Word of God (Holy Scriptures), there are multiple references that reflect the magnification of the Lord:
Psalm 100:4 – Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
This passage points to how God is magnified with our praise. It also encourages us to advance an attitude of thanksgiving before we tell God about our troubles. We bless him before we beseech him.
Psalm 150:1–2 – Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
According to this passage, we should praise—that is, shine and put forth the light of magnification of God—in His sanctuary or temples in heaven, His incredible and immense heavens. Emphatically echo His greatness on earth (houses of worship as well as your own house). Magnify Him for His display of dominance and power and colossal courses of action.
Psalm 63:3 – Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.
In this passage, the psalmist gives us a portrait of his personal experience of receiving God’s love. A love that is so powerful, profound, and permanent that it moves him to magnify the Lord!
Psalm 69:30 – I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
Magnifying the Lord involves singing that is attached to a heart of great gratitude.
Psalm 71:14 – But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more.
This passage reveals a heart that is robust in hope, which leads to a rich and enduring praise of the magnification of our God.
Lord willing, next time we will look at some practical ways to assist us in magnifying the Lord with our minds and mouths!
Not a sermon, just some thoughts.
