Petitioning the Proper Parameters for a Relationship with the Lord - Part 3
Petitioning the Proper Parameters for a Relationship with the Lord – Part 3
“Deal with thy servant according unto thy mercy, and teach me thy statutes.” – Psalm 119:124
In our last blog entry, the psalmist identified himself as the servant in relation to his relationship with the Lord. We also addressed a religious movement that marches in mysticism and prostrates at the polluted and pernicious feet of false doctrine.
Be resolute in remembering that the force of faith doctrine declares it is a law that functions independently of God’s sovereign will, suggesting that our great and glorious God Himself is subject to the laws levied by it. Again, the Word of God utterly advances the truth that our God is the absolute authority and is never subject to any person, law, or thing!
“God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.” – Psalm 62:11
This passage insists that power absolutely belongs to our infinite God. We will secure strength and certainty when we are centered in the absolute fact that God’s power is infinite, and executing the impossible is His forever forte.
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” – Matthew 28:18
From Matthew 28:18, we see that because the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God, He owns all authority and power. In addition, the passage stresses His sovereignty over all things. It echoes the truth that ultimately, God’s power is exhibited through Jesus. This passage powerfully confirms that God’s power transcends terrestrial margins and encompasses the curtains of heaven and its vast spheres.
Now we transition to the psalmist petitioning his Master’s matchless mercy. I submit to you that one’s appeal for mercy is often attached to actions that call for mercy. In other words, we want mercy to show up when we mess up!
And prior to a genuine, biblical, born-again experience, we majored in making a world that was messed up!
“Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,” – Ephesians 2:2–4
God’s incredible and infinite intervention breaks forth from His merciful love for His children. Understanding that there was unequivocally nothing His image bearers could muster to move us into His presence—and that He would personally take up residence in our bodies, thereby making us His temple—He delivered a rich and remarkable route through the cross of Christ.
Our Lord’s unparalleled victory over death unlocked the door that was deliberately closed to the degenerate and disobedient. Through supplication, scripture, and the Spirit of God abiding in us, each day ushers in refreshing and rich new mercy. Even on days when we deviate from His desired path, God will pour out mercy to the penitent.
CAN I GET AN AMEN?
Not a sermon, just some thoughts.
