The Blessing of Belonging to a Benevolent God - Part 2
The Blessing of Belonging to a Benevolent God – Part 2
I am thine, save me; for I have sought thy precepts. — Psalm 119:94
I am thine. What a declaration!
From this passage, it’s unquestionably evident that the psalmist's faith is on full display as he declares who he belongs to! God’s Word, by His Spirit, powerfully persuades us that we belong to Him. His love lifts us out of the deepest and darkest dungeon of loneliness. Furthermore, our personal value vaults beyond human expectations. Our victory over sin and Satan will never vanish.
In addition, the psalmist voices his immersed intimacy and rich recognition of belonging to God, as well as a request to be rescued.
The psalmist’s declaration of “I am thine" is also an assertion of faith and trust, which directs us to his vigorous and definitive belief that he belongs to God. This is not just about proprietorship but about a personal relationship of deep devotion and dependence.
And when we peer into the precious but powerful truth of His Word, we will discover our Father’s heart, and out of the abundance of His heart, He reveals His deep love for us, and it declares, “YOU BELONG TO ME.”
1 John 3:1
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Romans 8:16
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Leviticus 20:26
And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.
Psalms 100:3
Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
I believe this hymn written by Billy Speer, definitely depicts the truth of the blessing of belonging to our benevolent God.
Let’s read and lock in to the lyrics.
(Billy Speer - "Now I Belong to Jesus")
Jesus, my Lord, will love me forever,
From Him no pow’r of evil can sever,
He gave His life to ransom my soul;
Now I belong to Him;
Now I belong to Jesus,
Jesus belongs to me,
Not for the years of time alone, but for eternity.
Once I was lost in sin’s degradation,
Jesus came down to bring me salvation,
Lifted me up from sorrow and shame,
Now I belong to Him;
Now I belong to Jesus,
Jesus belongs to me,
Not for the years of time alone, but for eternity.
Joy floods my soul, for Jesus has saved me,
Freed me from sin that long had enslaved me.
His precious blood He came to redeem,
Now I belong to Him;
Now I belong to Jesus,
Jesus belongs to me,
Not for the years of time alone, but for eternity.
Not a sermon, just some thoughts
